Manchester United walk away from Anfield with a point against Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag‘s men did themselves proud in what was arguably the toughest fixture of the Premier League calendar year for the Red Devils.
The valiant defensive display was enough to justify the point Manchester United were rewarded with on the road from Old Trafford.
At the heart of it, was United veteran – Jonny Evans. He deserves an immense amount of credit for his performance.

Jonny Evans vs Liverpool
After a spell on the sidelines, Jonny Evans has proven once again what an inspired free pickup he was in the summer for Manchester United.
The centre-back barely put a foot wrong against Jurgen Klopp’s side – which is reflected in his fantastic stats from the affair.
- 90 minutes played
- 5 clearances
- 2 blocked shots
- 5 times possession lost
- 3/4 ground duels won
- 0 fouls
- 1 clean sheet
A class act from Evans, who was a huge factor in Liverpool failing to score on the day.
Evans showed he can still do it against the Premier League’s best
To keep a clean sheet and remain this defensively solid at 35 years of age against an attack of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez is nothing short of ludicrous.
Granted, Liverpool were not at their best today – however, a lot of this was down to the fact that United’s defence was set up in a way that didn’t allow Liverpool to attack.
Liverpool operate best when their attack is free-flowing, but United’s disciplined set-up in the backline meant they couldn’t attack with the usual dynamism of the Liverpool trio.
Evans, and Raphael Varane, were huge catalysts for this. The experienced duo seriously showed just why Ten Hag trusted them in a fixture of such importance – and he was rewarded greatly.
Well in, Jonny. He was the unsung hero in the Premier League encounter.
