Joshua Zirkzee has made himself a hero in game one for Manchester United.

As the minutes ticked down at Old Trafford, it was the new No.11 who salvaged three points when it looked likely to end in a draw.

Joshua Zirkzee was a second-half substitute and his impact was immediate, scoring after he got the deciding touch on Alejandro Garnacho’s cross.

Joshua Zirkzee became the latest United player to score on his debut in the 1-0 win for Manchester United.

In doing so, he has joined the record books alongside his coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Zirkzee joins Van Nistelrooy in record books

After grabbing the winner, Zirkzee joined his new United coach Van Nistelrooy in the history books – which bodes well for his Old Trafford career.

Zirkzee scoring on his debut means he joins Van Nistelrooy, along with Alexander Buttner and Donny van de Beek as Dutch players to score for United on their Premier League debut.

He also became the 15th Dutchman to score on his Premier League debut.

To follow in the footsteps of Van Nistelrooy is pretty incredible stuff and will have given him a massive boost in confidence.

Zirkzee makes an instant impact

As a new striker in the Premier League, the fact that Zirkzee already has his first goal in the bag is huge.

Rasmus Hojlund faced this problem last season when the search for a first Premier League goal grew a heavy weight on his shoulders.

It took him until December to grab his first goal for United domestically and this was a wait which left him getting pressure from fans and pundits.

So to see Zirkzee already clear this hurdle is amazing for him and for United, with his goal-scoring needed over the next few weeks,
