Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been hailed as a ‘beast’ by Jesse Lingard after his display against Fulham.
It wasn’t pretty and it won’t completely ease the doubts surrounding Erik ten Hag, but United claimed a valuable three points on Saturday.
Ten Hag took his side to Craven Cottage in search of three points after a very testing week.
This looked like being a fairly drab 0-0 draw until Bruno Fernandes popped up with an injury-time winner.
United must still improve and become less reliant on these moments of quality, but nobody in that away end was worrying about that when Fernandes found the net.
Harry Maguire hailed by Jesse Lingard after Manchester United win
A clean sheet was very welcome after two 3-0 defeats in a matter of days, with Harry Maguire playing a key role.
The United centre back lost the captaincy and was effectively made available for transfer over the summer.
Now back in the picture, Maguire is fighting for his United future and earning real praise.
Maguire took to Instagram on Saturday, celebrating the win by stating ‘a big 3 points in London’.
Jesse Lingard offered a response, commenting ‘beast today you brother’ having been impressed with Maguire’s performance.
Lingard no doubt understands the struggle Maguire has been through this year and is now loving seeing his old United teammate back to his best.
Maguire stats against Fulham
Maguire was a rock at the heart of the United defence and the stats back that up.
The 30-year-old recorded a whopping nine clearances and eight successful aerial duels.
Maguire also blocked two shots and completed 49 passes, with his ability from the back proving to be a factor.
This is more like the Maguire of old and United fans – including Lingard – will hope to see this continue for a long time yet.
