It is the most wonderful time of the year, and Manchester United will hope to give fans worldwide the best possible gift on Boxing Day.
Christmas has come and gone, now we can get back to the football, and for Manchester United, a trip to the Molineux against Wolves awaits.
It is Ruben Amorim’s first holiday season in England, and so the Boxing Day game will no doubt be a strange experience for him as he leaves his family at home.
For United, it is a huge chance to pick up much-needed points, with Wolves in the relegation zone and have recently undergone some managerial upheaval.
With this in mind, United will fancy their chances of picking up all three points. Which is becoming a common outcome for the Red Devils on Boxing Day.
Here is how the past five games have gone on Boxing Day.
2023 – Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa
Boxing Day 2023 will have be one Rasmus Hojlund looks back on very fondly as he scored his first Premier League goal for United.
Unai Emery’s side had stormed to a 2-0 lead in the opening 26 minutes as Red Devils supporters were left expecting a blue Christmas – however, Erik ten Hag conjured up a comeback spearheaded by Alejandro Garnacho.
Hojlund’s goal completed the comeback, as the goal took a huge weight off his shoulders – with his celebration telling the entire story.
The 3-2 victory for United ultimately proved to be written over after the loss to Nottingham Forest a few days later.
2020 – Leicester 2-2 Manchester United
Before 2023, the most recent Boxing Day fixture was 2020 in an empty King Power stadium amid Coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
Marcus Rashford was on the scoresheet for United here, along with Bruno Fernandes during the 2-2 draw against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes.
Leicester City’s goals came through Harvey Barnes and an Axel Tuanzebe own goal in a season which saw Ole Gunner Solskjaer bring United to a second-place finish.

2019 – Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle
Five years ago, Solskjaer oversaw a 4-1 Boxing Day demolition of the pre-Saudi-backed Newcastle side.
It was the Norwegian’s deadly front three who all got on the scoresheet with Anthony Martial scoring twice, as Mason Greenwood and Rashford both scoring once.
United came from behind – following Matty Longstaff’s opening goal. However, it was the Red Devils who got their Christmas wish.
2018 – Manchester United 3-1 Huddersfield
It was another exciting Boxing Day affair in 2018 for United, beating Huddersfield Town 3-1 at Old Trafford.
United routed to a 3-0 lead with Nemanja Matic and a Paul Pogba brace being enough to help the then-caretaker manager Solskjaer to another win in just his second game in charge.
This win was the second in a long streak of incredible form under the United legend which ultimately won him the permanent role.
2017 – Manchester United 2-2 Burnley
In 2017, Boxing Day belonged to Jesse Lingard, who was in immense form at the time, as he gave United fans two goals for Christmas.
United came from 2-0 behind in the game at Old Trafford, tying things up in the 91st minute – which is the true United way. All that was missing was a winner.
This was the second unbeaten boxing day game in a run which stands at six – all the way back to 2015 and a 2-0 loss to Stoke City.
