Manchester United came out on top in a dramatic 4-3 win over Wolves in the Premier League on Thursday night.

It’s never easy for Manchester United is it? Despite a mesmerising display which really should’ve seen United streets ahead early, poor finishing let Wolves back into the game.

From 2-0 up, United let it slip to 2-1, then from 3-1 they threw it away again to let Wolves draw level. Then the composed head of Kobbie Mainoo prevailed as he scored a delightful winner in the 97th minute, making it a 4-3 victory for United.

The goal topped off a brilliant performance from the 18-year-old as usual, and now he’s been lauded by an English football legend.

Gary Lineker in awe of Kobbie Mainoo

Taking to X after Mainoo scored the winner, Gary Lineker couldn’t help but marvel at the young England midfielder’s brilliance.

He wrote: “Wow! What a finale and what a prodigious young talent, Kobbie Mainoo is.”

Mainoo is enjoying a simply sensational breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford and with every display he seems to gain further plaudits and admirers.

He isn’t even just impressing in midfield now either with goals in back-to-back games, but his winner against Wolves was an absolutely clutch moment.

Kobbie Mainoo was very impressive vs Wolves

Since Casemiro’s return from injury, Mainoo’s role has changed and he’s being given more license up the field. This has seen him score two in two.

He had an 84% pass completion rate which isn’t as good as he usually is but is to be expected when playing further forward.

Defensively he was also excellent, with seven duels won along with three tackles, two interceptions and two clearances as per SofaScore.

Ultimately, his goal is the defining moment which will be talked about and rightfully so, the dribble and shot were both world class and he’s quickly becoming one of the league’s most exciting midfielders.
