Five things learned as Manchester United beat Burnley 1-0

Manchester United faced Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday night in a hard fought 1-0 victory.

United held strong to see off Burnley’s onslaught in the first half to open the scoring through Bruno Fernandes.

Here are five things we learned…

Hannibal looks the part

Coming into the line-up for a poor Christian Eriksen, Hannibal Mejbri was brilliant against Burnley.

His running, physicality and energy combined with technical ability and creativity helped him fit right in at a Premier League level.

He was everywhere for United in defence and attack and just looked like he’d been playing at this level for years.

Place in the first team now fully established.

Jonny Evans still has it

Evans at times may have looked shaky and slow in defence, however all was forgiven due to that delightful pass to assist the opening goal.

He lined up a long forward pass where Bruno Fernandes was waiting and met it first time with a beautiful finish into the bottom corner.

Scoring right on the verge of halftime, Evans played a vital role, and also made the same pass moments later which nearly resulted in a second.

On the stroke of half-time, our captain and magician pulled one out of the bag again.

Scoring at the perfect time after a bad first half, Bruno showed his finishing ability is second to none.

The goal also set the precedent for the second-half which saw Burnley a lot less dangerous, and United a lot more, threatening consistently on the break.

Style must improve

While the result is exactly what we needed, a performance of substance was equally important.

This didn’t happen as United played more like a Burnley of old than the Clarets did themselves.

With a win on the books, we hope that now the style can receive some attention and we can kick on.

The season starts now

Up until now, the season has had very few positive moments, however today is definitely one.

The performance might not have been great, but the defensive resilience which we showed will be a huge confidence boost for the the likes of Casemiro, Andre Onana and Victor Lindelof who have all been under fire.

Now though, the win needs to be capitalised on and kick start our season from scratch.
