Manchester United will face arguably the toughest game of their season in the worst run of form when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s side have lost just one game all season while United are on a four-game losing streak. Combine that with United’s atrocious record at Anfield, and it’s hard to look beyond one outcome.
Not many are giving Ruben Amorim’s men much of a chance in this game of any points, let alone three, and Liverpool start as heavy favourites.

For Man Utd fans, the focus will just be on the performances and the players salvaging some pride by not giving up and surrendering at the first instance of hardship.
Amorim, however, made an exciting claim before the game that would fill the fans with optimism.

Ruben Amorim’s claim before Liverpool vs Man Utd
The Man Utd manager would have had an idea about the scale of the task before he arrived at Old Trafford but not even in his most pessimistic form would he have thought things would get this bad.
After accepting that his team were in a relegation battle in the wake of the Newcastle defeat, fixtures against Liverpool and Arsenal are hardly the antidote.
However, derby matches can often give the perfect launchpad to forget about the form and just play with pride and determination, something which was seen in the Manchester derby victory.
Beyond those intangibles, however, something else has changed for this game. Amorim finally received an extended period of time on the training pitch with the full squad.
He said ahead of the game that that has been invaluable and he’s already seen some improvements to the team as a result.
He said: “Really good [training this week]. It’s so much different when you, for example, have two trainings [sessions] to have everybody, to explain the idea, to work on the little things, and you are happier.
“You feel that you are improving and that is the feeling that I have had this week. Let’s see on the game.”
Man Utd players need to step up
Amorim has shielded his players so far but gave them the home truths at the same time in his masterful handling of press conferences.
However, with this statement above, Amorim has thrown down the gauntlet to his players, effectively saying that he finally got the chance to do his job to the best of his abilities and now it’s up to the players to translate it on the field.
That has far too often been the problem at United that the players look like they down the tools at the first occurrence of a hardship/difficult moment.
Amorim alluded to that in his press conference as well, saying that players are playing in an anxious and afraid state, for which leaders need to step up.
United will get their captain back for this game and Manuel Ugarte will return too which should be a crucial double boost for the team.
However, no two players can change the fortunes of a whole team. They need to puff their chests out and ensure Liverpool will have been in a game when the full-time whistle rings.
That’s all the fans want from this game. Anything above that would be a bonus. At least Amorim looks encouraged with what he’s seen in training this week.
