Erik ten Hag has been asked why Marcus Rashford is on the bench for Manchester United against Wolves today.

Rashford has been flying lately and scored again for United against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

But the only change from that 3-0 win at Old Trafford sees Alejandro Garnacho come into the side in place of Rashford.

That looked an odd one from the outside and at 11.32am, Ten Hag was asked by BT Sport about the decision.

Ten Hag asked why Rashford is on the bench against Wolves

When asked why Rashford was on the bench given his recent form, Ten Hag said just two words: “Internal disciplinary.”

When asked to expand, he repeated the same two words.

Ten Hag has stuck with the same backline which beat Forest, with Luke Shaw at the heart of it, with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof on the bench.

On that, he said: “(Their recent illnesses) is one argument. Another is this backline did well (against Forest) and tactically for this game, it is very good.”

He was also asked about the death of Brazilian legend Pele, and said: “In the dressing room, I spoke about the big personality and the big miss for football and also for Brazil. He started to change the game.

“It is massive what he achieved and he has a lot of respect from the Brazilians. He is almost like a god.”

We don’t know much more about what happened with Rashford, but it is almost the worst possible time for him to be dropped out of the team.

Ten Hag has shown he will not compromise on his standards – once again – even for a player who is on great form in a game which could take United into the top four with a win.
