Manchester United’s winning run ended on Tuesday night, with a 1-1 draw against West Ham in which VAR once again played its part.
There isn’t a game that goes by these days without VAR having an impact on the outcome, and for Manchester United, this was the case against West Ham.
United drew 1-1 with West Ham, with Michael Carrick’s side also seeing a goal ruled out due to a fractional offside for Casemiro.
This followed United being denied a penalty against Spurs, and against West Ham, there were also issues with the officiating.

David May criticises refereeing during Manchester United vs West Ham
In hindsight, the point against West Ham was a good one as they were a brilliant defensive unit and United weren’t on top form anyway.
However, there has been a gripe over West Ham’s tackling, with lots of fouls but not many being penalised.
Speaking to MUTV during the post-match show, David May claimed that West Ham were treated favourably by the referee.
“10 fouls committed by West Ham over the course of the game. You compare that to the just the four committed by Manchester United. It was a real bone of contention for both of us, wasn’t it?
“It was persistent. Well, it looked like it, you look at the stats there, you know, it took them probably five, six fouls to actually get booked,” May said.
This isn’t even including moments like Adama Traore shoving Casemiro in the back, which wasn’t even awarded as a foul.

This season, on an almost game-by-game basis, United has seen decisions go against them that are blatantly wrong, some of which have cost points.
From penalties not being given to the red card for Shea Lacey, referees are consistently making dubious calls against the Red Devils, which other clubs don’t suffer from.
United have even seen apologies from the PGMOL on multiple occasions for decisions they admit were wrong.
It has gotten to the point that United and Michael Carrick need to make a point of highlighting these issues and calling them out.
United don’t need favours, but to be treated fairly and get penalties for things other clubs do is the bare minimum.
