Manchester United’s starting XI to face Southampton has been announced as the Red Devils look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
Erik Ten Hag’s side suffered a league-record defeat last weekend at Anfield as Liverpool embarrassed United 7-0 in one of the most incredible results the Premier League has ever seen. Yet despite the loss, confidence remains high around Old Trafford.
United rebounded almost immediately to their thrashing on Merseyside to win 4-1 against Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League, with Marcus Rashford returning to scoring ways with Antony and Wout Weghorst also finding the back of the net.
With Tottenham winning on Saturday, United know they must claim all three points against bottom-place Southampton, and here is the XI Ten Hag has named for this afternoon…

Starting XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fernandes, Antony, Sancho, Rashford; Weghorst
Substitutes: Heaton, Maguire, Malacia, Dalot, McTominay, Mainoo, Garancho, Pellestri
With United hosting Southampton, Ten Hag has opted for a very attack-minded starting XI against the Saints, with Fred dropping to the bench to make way for Jadon Sancho as Bruno Fernandes drops into a deeper midfielder position alongside Casemiro.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also back in the starting XI, with the £50m defender replacing Diogo Dalot despite the Portuguese international starting against Betis and Liverpool, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw all retaining their starting spots.
With Wout Weghorst bagging in the Europa League, the Dutchman also keeps his place in the XI, with Marcus Rashford and Antony hoping to add to their tallies having all scored against Betis on Thursday night.
