Erik ten Hag has selected his Manchester United starting line-up for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will be hoping to make it back-to-back top-flight wins after beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park last Sunday.

After being battering 6-3 by Manchester City at the start of the month, the twenty-time league champions have won three consecutive matches, with the three points against the Toffees coming either side of doing the double over Cypriot outfit Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.

Ten Hag has made three changes to the side that beat Omonia on Thursday night thanks to a 93rd-minute winner from substitute Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international is not part of today’s matchday squad with him ruled out of the clash against the Magpies after picking up his fifth Premier League booking of the season after coming off the bench on Merseyside last Sunday.

From the starting line-up that beat Neil Lennon’s side 1-0, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford drop to the bench.

In come Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Jadon Sancho. The Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen, who didn’t start for the first time this season on Thursday night, misses out completely.

Seventeen-year-old academy star Kobbie Mainoo is on the bench for the first for Manchester United’s senior side with Ten Hag missing McTominay, Eriksen and Donny van de Beek.

Fresh after scoring his 700th goal of his club career against Frank Lampard’s Toffees, Cristiano Ronaldo starts his first Premier League game since the Reds were took apart by Brentford in mid-August.

Fred also makes his first Premier League start since our chastening afternoon against the Bees.

Ten Hag has opted to freshen up his attacking positions with Sancho coming in for Rashford.

United start the day in fifth place and could climb as high as fourth if we beat the Toon Army and Chelsea, who also kick off at 2pm, fail to win away at Aston Villa.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are in sixth place and are one point behind us on 14 points, but the PIF-owned club have played one game more.

Following this afternoon’s game, Ten Hag’s side welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Theatre of Dreams on Wednesday night before travelling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday.
