Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick has named his starting eleven to face Villarreal tonight.

Carrick has only had one day to work with the players since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and this is how he has lined his side up.

Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles, Fred, McTominay, Van de Beek, Sancho, Martial, Ronaldo

Substitutes: Heaton, Henderson, Bailly, Dalot, Fernandes, Lingard, Mata, Matic, Amad, Rashford

You can see how Carrick’s lineup compares to our predicted one for the game here.

The big news is that Bruno Fernandes has been left out of the side, and Donny van de Beek has been granted a start.

Jadon Sancho also keeps his place in the starting lineup, with Alex Telles coming in for Luke Shaw at left-back.

Anthony Martial is in ahead of Marcus Rashford on the left wing, with Cristiano Ronaldo still up front.

United need at least a draw to keep Champions League qualification in their own hands.

So far, they have just one point from their two away group games so far and that was grabbed in stoppage time last time out against Atalanta.

It represents a huge risk to have Carrick managing his first professional game on such a big night with such limited time to work with the players.

He has gone with the team he thinks is best to get a much-needed result amid the backdrop of managerial uncertainty.
