Chido Obi reacts to Rasmus Hojlund’s ‘needed that’ admission after scoring against Bournemouth

Manchester United might have dropped two points vs Bournemouth but Rasmus Hojlund, in his own words, got what he ‘needed’ the most.

Rasmus Hojlund scored for Man Utd in injury time to salvage a point that should have been three, but it’s a small step for the striker.

This was Hojlund’s first goal for the club since he scored at Leicester, with the international break coming at a bad time for the player.

The Dane sent a message after the game saying he ‘needed’ that goal despite the team not winning, and Man Utd fans will hope it’s the start of a streak.

Chido Obi, increasingly his rival for the No. 9 spot, reacted to his senior teammate’s message.

Rasmus Hojlund’s message after Bournemouth

Amorim had said after the Wolves game that the only way for Hojlund to come out of this spiral is to keep playing and eventually score.

Hojlund was in a vicious cycle and just a week later, Amorim’s words have come true, with the Dane breaking his scoring drought at the best possible time.

Since he’s the only available striker for Europe, he can now play against Athletic with some confidence as the monkey is lifted off his back.

That relief was palpable in his Instagram message after the game as he posted a picture of himself celebrating with the caption: “We wanted the win, but I needed that”.

Chido Obi reacted with a fire emoji while ex-Red Devil Sofyan Amrabat also appeared in the replies with a heart and praying emoji.

United academy man Sam Mather responded with a fire emoji as well with the likes of Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass, and Joshua Zirkzee all liking the post.

Rasmus Hojlund vs Chido Obi can push both

It has often been said that Hojlund is underqualified for the job he’s given as the starting striker of Man Utd, that too, with no real competition.

The game against Bournemouth was the first time he’s played alongside Chido Obi, with the youngster generally replacing Hojlund instead.

Hojlund moved deeper with Obi’s introduction and with the 17-year-old grabbing the attention of the defenders, Hojlund looked better.

Obi plus a new striker United buy in the summer can be the push needed to get Hojlund firing while also keeping him away from the sole limelight.

In the meantime, Hojlund has got the confidence-booster he sorely needed and the hope will be that he takes it to the all-important Europa League semifinals.
