Manchester United have beaten Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend, securing back-to-back wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim.

It was a game which both managers desperately needed victory in, with Manchester United looking to turn a corner and Liverpool hoping to end a three-game losing streak.

After a longer-than-expected 98 minutes or so, United held on to beat Liverpool thanks to a very solid performance from Ruben Amorim’s side.

Within the victory, United had several standout performers, earning Amorim his first back-to-back wins since he took over in November 2024.

The goals came from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, with the opener making fresh history.

Bryan Mbeumo scores joint quickest goal for Manchester United vs Liverpool

Mbeumo’s goal was his third for Manchester United and undoubtedly the biggest of the season for the Red Devils so far.

The goal was a special one, happening so fast that it set the game up in United’s favour, and by coming in the second minute, it also made 30-year history.

Mbeumo’s strike was the joint quickest in the fixture in Premier League history, and the first time since 1995 that a goal was scored in the second minute between United and Liverpool.

Nicky Butt was the only other player to achieve this, with his goal at Old Trafford in October 1995 making history.

There were just 62 seconds on the clock when Mbeumo scored, which also sits as the quickest in the league this season so far.

How Bryan Mbeumo played against Liverpool

For Mbeumo, the headlines over his performances will have been written after the goal, but outside of this strike, he also had a very strong outing.

Mbeumo created one chance for United and will know that he missed another chance of his own, which could have put the game beyond doubt early on.

Mbeumo did lose all 10 duels during the game; however, he was competing against Virgil van Dijk for long balls, which were only ever going to end one way.

The attacking department at United is so interchangeable; however, Mbeumo is the one player who is probably guaranteed to start every week.
