Bruno Fernandes calls one Manchester United player ‘Zidane’ after beating Everton

Bruno Fernandes was seemingly impressed with Manchester United teammate Jonny Evans in Saturday’s win against Everton.

United had to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City and did so with a pair of penalties.

Alejandro Garnacho won both of them with some tricky wing play, tempting fouls from James Tarkowski and Ben Godfrey.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to score the first before allowing Marcus Rashford to take the second.

Rashford obliged with a goal, securing a 2-0 win before the half-time whistle.

This wasn’t a vintage performance from United by any stretch of the imagination, but a win was the most important thing.

One of the key performances for United came from centre back Jonny Evans.

The veteran has become a welcome surprise this season having signed a one-year deal last summer.

Evans was expected to be cheap, veteran depth after leaving Leicester City, but he has become a much more important player than anticipated.

Evans racked up four clearances, four blocked shots, two interceptions, one aerial duel and one successful dribble whilst also completing 42 passes.

This was a strong performance from Evans and he took to Instagram to celebrate a fine Saturday.

United captain Bruno Fernandes responded, stating ‘Jonny Zidane Evans’ praising the experienced centre back after a crucial win.

We may not see Evans pulling off roulettes for fun like Zidane but Bruno seemingly loves the United defender.

Could Evans stay at United?

Bruno’s praise comes as United weigh up whether to keep hold of Evans.

The Northern Irishman has been a credit to himself ever since returning for a second spell at United.

Evans is 36 now, but continues to impress and may well be worth keeping for another year.

Having the backing of United’s club captain goes to show the kind of impact Evans has made both on and off the pitch, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him sign a new deal.

United do need to find defenders for the future too, but keeping Evans around to offer experience and know-how is becoming increasingly appealing.
