Manchester United fans had a lot to say about Manuel Ugarte after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with West Ham in Thursday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils welcomed Nuno Espirito Santo’s men to Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim’s men were unable to break the deadlock in the first half of their clash.

Manchester United took the lead over West Ham on Thursday evening after Diogo Dalot dispatched a composed finish past Alphonse Areola in the second half.

The Red Devils were unable to hold on to the advantage after Diogo Dalot’s second-half opener, with West Ham finally rallying back against United at Old Trafford.

Noussair Mazraoui cleared Jarrod Bowen’s flicked-on header off the line after a West Ham corner, only for the ball to land into the path of Soungoutou Magassa.

Soungoutou Magassa was able to put the ball into a near-empty United net and rescued a crucial Premier League point for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Thursday.

Manuel Ugarte is singled out by Man Utd fans after West Ham rescued a 1-1 Premier League draw at Old Trafford

Manuel Ugarte came off the bench late in the second half and the 24-year-old Manchester United midfielder replaced Matheus Cunha in the Premier League match.

United fans felt that Ruben Amorim repeated the same mistakes by bringing on Manuel Ugarte when the Red Devils were leading, only for them to concede later on.

“[…] Every time he brings Ugarte on, we concede,” one United fan said.

Diogo Dalot scored his first goal for Man Utd since 2024 – Was Amorim wrong to take him off?

“It’s an instant kill on his first touch. He still has a lot to do. A brilliant moment for him and a great finish.”

Someone else added: “You know, it’s not going to end well when Ugarte comes on the pitch. He is a bad omen.”

Another Red Devils supporter tweeted: “Ugarte should never have come on. Lost complete control with him on.”

While a fourth argued: “Ugarte enters the pitch, we concede. Every [match], the same thing. The difference with him on and off the pitch is actually crazy.”

Somebody else posted: “Every time Ugarte comes on, somehow we concede!”

A sixth X user wrote: “The moment Ugarte came on, I just knew that Man Utd would concede a goal. [One] point at Old Trafford against Everton and West Ham is embarrassing.”

And a seventh asked: “When was the last time Ugarte came on and we didn’t concede???”

“Ugarte in, United concede has been one of the worst recurring themes,” another suggested.

Ruben Amorim’s handling of Manuel Ugarte shows Man Utd’s major midfield problems

United manager Ruben Amorim has mainly relied on the two-man midfield pivot of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

But there has been much to be desired with his handling of Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, with both players struggling to secure regular United first-team minutes this season.

Kobbie Mainoo was left on the bench for United and Ugarte offered very little when Amorim turned to the 24-year-old Uruguayan defensive midfielder on Thursday.

United will now return to Premier League action on Monday evening against Wolves, with the Red Devils travelling to the Molineux for their next December fixture.
