Manchester United’s pre-season tour has been completely focused on facing Premier League opposition after Ruben Amorim’s domestic struggles last season.

Last season is now beginning to feel like a distant memory, with the new Premier League season now just two weeks away from kicking off against Arsenal.

Finishing 15th is a feat which can never be repeated by Manchester United, and so testing Ruben Amorim against domestic opponents during pre-season was always going to either showcase that he can fixed the issues, or expose failings further.

To date, the US tour has been a huge success with United first beating West Ham 2-1 with the performance deserving of more.

However, in the early hours of Thursday morning, United thrashed Bournemouth 4-1 to continue an unbeaten pre-season campaign, with another excellent performance which was hugely impressive.

United had several standout performers against Bournemouth, with every player executing their role to perfection which has blown the Bournemouth manager away.

Andoni Iraola raves about Manchester United

Last season, United were left humiliated by Bournemouth after losing 3-0 at Old Trafford for a second year running. So ahead of playing the Cherries, we all knew that it would be a good gauge of where Amorim’s side are at right now.

So after winning comfortably and scoring four goals while also deserving a clean sheet, it is safe to United are at least better than last season.

After the game, Bournemouth boss, Andoni Iraola, has spoken about the result and offered huge praise for United in doing so.

“We are very far right now from United, I think United are a hell of a team and they have signed also very well.

“Today we saw they are more fast in this moment, that is what counts. We still have time to prepare, we are not as good as we looked the other day and not as bad as we looked today, we are somewhere in the middle.”

Iraola has made light work of United before, so to label Amorim’s team so impressively says a lot about the changes that have been going on within the squad this summer.

Ruben Amorim has done an incredible job at Manchester United

The caveat of this performance is that it is pre-season, however, United can only take games as they come, so based on what we have seen thus far, we cannot help but be positive and excited.

For this, Amorim has done an incredible job to completely overhaul the way United play football and he deserves plenty of credit.

Last season, United were out-ran, out-pressed, out-duelled and all-around just out-played by almost every Premier League opponent faced apart from the relegated sides.

This could not be the case this coming campaign, and during pre-season, United have been working extremely hard, winning duels and every player has been understanding their roles in defence and attack.

Amorim will know this is only the beginning, but if this is the base level, the end result could see the club back where it belongs at the top of the sport.
