Alex Telles was United’s most creative player vs Watford

Alex Telles was brought back into the Manchester United starting XI for the 0-0 draw against Watford.

Ralf Rangnick left England internationals Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho on the bench at Old Trafford.

Sancho has been playing so well that he can say he was rested but the form of the other three players has been such that they could easily have been dropped.

Telles got a chance to shine in place of Shaw, and as per WhoScored, he was United’s most creative player on a frustrating afternoon.

He made four chances from left-back, which is more than any other player on the pitch for either side, including the usually prolific creator Bruno Fernandes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the other flank also deserves a mention; he had more touches than anyone else with 111 and made three chances.

But the Englishman had already earned a start against Leeds last weekend, whereas Telles is now trying to establish himself again.

There was not too much defending to do so he was able to focus on pushing on and making chances, which is his strength.

He had 72 touches overall and even got a shot away from a dead ball situation, as well as making two tackles to halt counter attacks.

Telles was one of the substitutes who helped change the game away from home against Atletico Madrid in midweek and produced an eye-catching nutmeg on that night.

Next up is the Manchester derby and the identity of the back four will be a huge selection decision for Ralf Rangnick – and one he has to get right.

Telles staked his claim here, and Rangnick has competition for places in various areas of the pitch now, although he would likely prefer three points to show for a dominant performance, but one which was ultimately let down by poor finishing.
