Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has taken to Instagram to suggest that he is ‘back’ after scoring against Crystal Palace.
United were back in action on Tuesday night, hosting Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.
Erik ten Hag’s men dominated and took a 20th-minute lead through Alejandro Garnacho’s finish.
Casemiro headed in number two before Anthony Martial wrapped up the 3-0 win before the hour mark.
That’s two wins in just a few days for United, keeping two clean sheets in the process.
Alejandro Garnacho celebrates goal in Manchester United win
This was a big moment for Garnacho, who played just 20 minutes across games against Arsenal, Brighton and Bayern Munich.
The 19-year-old was an unused substitute against Burnley too, so he really needed to take this chance in the United starting XI.
Garnacho did that with his close-range goal, getting into the right position as a winger attacking the ball from the opposite flank.
This is what Ten Hag will have wanted to see and Garnacho was seemingly delighted with his own performance.
Garnacho took to Instagram to post photos of him celebrating, alongside the three-word caption ’17 is back’, a reference to his shirt number and return to prominence.
Garnacho received supportive messages from the likes of Sofyan Amrabat, Kobbie Mainoo and Alvaro Fernandez, with Mainoo stating ‘yhhh 17’.Alejandro Garnacho posts three-word message after Manchester United win, Kobbie Mainoo responds
Erik ten Hag explains Garnacho absence
Much has been expected of Garnacho this season, so his recent absence from the starting XI has raised eyebrows.
Ten Hag has though explained to The Mirror that he feels Garnacho’s ‘contribution was not good enough’ in the early weeks of the season.
The Dutchman does though believe that Garnacho is a ‘threat’ even when he isn’t at his best, seeing big potential in the teenager.
“You have seen at the start of the season we played him and then his contribution was not good enough,” Ten Hag said. “But he also had some good actions. You see always he is a threat in the game even when he is not playing that well,” he added.
United need to see Garnacho find consistency in his game, which is often the case with young players, and Tuesday’s performance will hopefully be a real springboard.
