There were lengthy protests by supporters on their approach to the ground.

Anti-Glazer protests led to the home match with Liverpool last season getting postponed but there was no suggestion that the game was not going to be on here.

The Munich Tunnel was closed as thousands of fans blocked it up and chanted songs which made it clear that they want the Glazers out.

Some fans also did not take their seats until 17 minutes into the game, a minute for every year that the Glazers have owned the club.

Those who did will have missed Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal, which came after some great pressure from Anthony Elanga.

It cannot have been an atmosphere the United players have played in too often, where it is almost matters off the pitch which have been the priority for the fans.
