Manchester United legend Gordon Hill believes the club are in for a tough opening day fixture today against West Ham.
West Ham have a history of famous results against United and earned a draw at Old Trafford last season, and Hill believes history might repeat itself if Jose Mourinho’s team aren’t well prepared.
“A good result will put us in good stead for the start of the season, plus being at home (should be an advantage),” he said. “Teams like West Ham are going to come to United and want to put one over on us. I think Chicharito will be trying to come back and make a name for himself, so (United have) their work cut out.”
Hill was speaking exclusively to United In Focus’s YouTube Channel in a season preview that can be seen here. The former winger says he wants to see more of United’s last 30 minutes and not the first 60 they showed on Tuesday night against Real Madrid.
“It’s not too long after they’ve played Real Madrid and we can’t play the same way (as they did in the first half) because it wasn’t clever,” said Hill. “We were cut open. We can’t afford to go two goals down anymore, this is a season where Jose has to put everything out there, he can’t hold back.”
The UnitedInFocus show returns for its season opener tonight at 7.15pm BST. Host Dave Murphy will be joined by Nipun Chopra and US radio host Blaine Humbles.
