Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally had his say on the failed plans for the European Super League.

At his pre-match press conference, which was streamed live on the club’s official app at 1.30pm, he was also asked about the Glazer family and the departing Ed Woodward.

Anger against the club’s owners and Woodward has flared up again after they backed the Super League proposal which would have caused major changes to the game in this country.

It would have enabled the owners to ringfence their income and make it unrelated to sporting performance on the pitch, removing relegation from the equation.

When asked about the Super League, Solskjaer said: “I’m a supporter myself, and there’ll be a day when I come back and watch Man United and I wanna watch a Man United team with a fear of failure.

“I didn’t like the (Super League) concept anyway, it has to be on sporting merit, I want to earn the right to play in Europe. You can’t be given it because your name is such and such, you have to earn the right to be there.

When asked directly about the Glazers, Solskjaer replied: “I have said what I said about the Super League. I am so happy all the owners have agreed it was a mistake. I have always had good working relationship with the owners. We speak, they listen to my opinions.”

And on Woodward’s resignation, he said: “”I have had a very, very good working relationship with Ed. We have to move on without him. Hopefully we can end the season successfully. Ed would be part of that.”

Some United were pleased their manager was unequivocal in his opposition to the idea of the Super League, removing the need to earn the right to play in European football.

He was never likely to make a grand statement about Woodward or the Glazers.

Woodward will still be at the club until the end of 2021. The Glazers have no immediate plans to leave.

Here’s how Solskjaer’s strong comments about the doomed Super League went down with some United fans:
