Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old, who has missed the last two games through illness, ripped the Red Devils to shreds in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Having failed to secure a summer move to a Champions League club, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said the truth of his version of events would eventually come to the fore.

United’s number seven felt the best time to deliver the bombshell interview was hours after Erik ten Hag’s side beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage thanks to a stoppage time winner from Ronaldo’s idol Alejandro Garnacho.

The comments conveniently came with Ronaldo heading to Qatar for the winter World Cup in Qatar with Portugal where he will be chasing glory.

It’s highly unlikely that one of the greatest players of all time, who was seen as a legend at Old Trafford, will return to Carrington.

Speaking on his Vibe with FIVE podcast with Jamie Carragher being a guest on the show, Ferdinand gave his verdict on Ronaldo’s interview.

Ferdinand said: “You cannot sit here and defend that from Cristiano Ronaldo. This has all been manufactured for one thing and that is for him to leave the club.

“This love affair with Manchester United that Cristiano has had is now over in my eyes. I don’t think there is any way back – I don’t think the club will take him back and I don’t think he wants to come back – I think that’s a given.

“He’s done everything he can to get out of this club.”

Earlier this afternoon Manchester United released a statement in response to the interview.

The statement read: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

“Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.”
