Ralf Rangnick praises 'not normal' Cristiano Ronaldo after latest impressive performance
Ralf Rangnick has praised Cristiano Ronaldo’s contribution and work rate after the 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea.
Ronaldo struck United’s goal, his 23rd of the season, the same number of goals he scored for the Red Devils in the 2006/07 season.
The goal was just part of his efforts on the night. Ronaldo touched the ball 57 times, tracking back and putting his younger colleagues to shame.
By contrast Anthony Elanga (29 times) and Marcus Rashford (25) touched the ball 54 times combined.
‘This is not normal’
Rangnick spoke highly of Ronaldo’s efforts after the game, praising his work rate.
The interim boss told Sky Sports: “Not only the goal Cristiano scored but his whole performance, his attitude at age of 37, this is not normal to do that.
“If he plays like he did today he can still be a big help to this team.”
Pressed further by reporters over whether he will be recommending this to Erik ten Hag, he simply replied that it will be the Dutchman’s decision, and Ronaldo’s too.
Ronaldo’s feats are impressive regardless of age. He is the second highest scorer in the Premier League this season.
Eight of United’s last nine goals have been scored by Ronaldo, and he is one of the few rays of light in this difficult season for the club.
Ronaldo has another year remaining on his contract, and then there is the option for a further 12 months, if both parties agree to it.
With new boss Erik ten Hag set to arrive once this season is finally over, Ronaldo looks like the least of United’s problems.
