Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to leave Manchester United. So desperate in fact, that he has reportedly shown an interest in joining Newcastle United.

The Mail reports agent Jorge Mendes ‘spoke to Newcastle last month’ in addition to holding talks with Bayern Munich last week.

There is no further information on whether Newcastle are interested in signing Ronaldo or not. Although it would be a surprise.

Mendes has offered desperate Cristiano Ronaldo to Newcastle

Ronaldo is desperate to quit Manchester United and has left himself no way back, having criticised manager Erik ten Hag in an interview with Piers Morgan serialised in The Sun.

Ronaldo was last season’s top goalscorer but has only netted three goals this season compared to 24 in 2021/22.

Two of his three this season came against Sheriff Tiraspol, one of which was a penalty.

Newcastle are this season’s surprise package, who Ronaldo failed to score against in a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

They currently sit in third place, four points ahead of Manchester United, who do have one game in hand.

Newcastle’s takeover gives them the money to be able to afford Ronaldo’s wages if they wish, but they have not conducted their business in this manner, taking a more methodical approach rather than chasing star names.

Considering they are in third they may invest in January, but a move for Ronaldo would risk doing more damage than the success they could create.

Given that Ronaldo’s first game back for Manchester United was a two-goal display against Newcastle, this would be quite the twist if he went there, something unthinkable at the time.

Ronaldo is more hopeful Bayern Munich may take him, setting him up for a Champions League showdown with Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16.

Bayern turned down Ronaldo in the summer – although a recent injury to Sadio Mane has highlighted a possible lack of depth up front which they may wish to provide they have extra cover for in the second half of the season.
