Cristiano Ronaldo promised to deliver the truth months ago after failing to secure a move away from Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

But just hours after Erik ten Hag’s side beat Fulham in our last match before the World Cup, the 37-year-old completely blindsided the club, his manager and teammates with a damming interview with Piers Morgan.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner claims he feels “betrayed” by the Red Devils and that he has “no respect” for Ten Hag because he feels the Dutchman doesn’t respect him.

United’s number seven wasn’t part of the squad that beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage yesterday thanks to a dramatic late winner from Argentinian wonderkid Alejandro Garancho who sees Ronaldo as his idol.

Portugal’s captain was reportedly ill for the trip to west London, but he was deemed in good enough health to be interviewed by Morgan.

Ronaldo feeling ill allegedly came after the former Juventus marksman was told that he’d be on the bench against the Cottagers.

United’s number seven is rapidly tarnishing his legacy at Old Trafford and it’s hard to see him playing for the twenty-time league champions again.

But given how one of the greatest players of all time is conducting himself at a club he supposedly adores, it’s hard to envisage any club, let alone a Champions League last-16 side wanting to sign the veteran in January.

The best thing for all parties would be for Ronaldo to be released from his contract and that the Portuguese settles with a reasonable pay off sum.

The timing of Ronaldo’s comments come hours after United’s last game before the World Cup and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t show his face at Carrington again.

Ten Hag will likely be fuming by Ronaldo’s comments, and he’ll want rid of the bad apple after giving him ample chances to form part of his squad.

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe couldn’t believe what he was seeing when damming comments from Ronaldo’s interview were released.

Ronaldo will now swan off to the World Cup in Qatar where he chases glory with Fernando Santos’ Portugal.

It will be interesting to see what reception he gets from Manchester United duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes in Qatar.
