Flamengo director denies Cristiano Ronaldo rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s reported desire to leave Manchester United this summer appears to be an open secret at this point.

BBC Sport report he wants to leave, although manager Erik ten Hag has publicly insisted he wants last season’s top scorer to stay, The Guardian report.

Ronaldo is having trouble finding a club. Bayern Munich, Chelsea and PSG have all backed away, while he even labelled rumours with Sporting as ‘fake’ – although has kept silent on other links.

Another club who have shut down rumours are Brazilian side Flamengo, after a surprise link.

Flamengo director denies Cristiano Ronaldo rumours

The rumours began after Flamengo director Marco Braz was seen meeting Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro during a trip to Europe.

This prompted chatter in Brazil that Flamengo could be attempting to get into the mix for Ronaldo, speculation he strenuously denies.

Quoted by Sapo Desporto, Braz explained: “At no time did we think about [hiring] Cristiano Ronaldo.

“What is known is that, when I was in Europe, I was with Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, I met her in a restaurant, I was with my family, she was with her family.

“We talked for five minutes, we had a coffee, That’s what happened. She treated me as cordially as possible. I was in Madeira Island, her house, her region. That’s all that happened, nothing more. I would love to, but it’s unthinkable. We never thought about it.”

Flamengo were the club who could not afford to buy Andreas Pereira permanently from United, so this is a denial we should take to be 100 per cent correct.

A move to Brazil was probably unlikely for Ronaldo, who wants to play in Europe’s Champions League – if he can find a taker.

At the moment all avenues appear closed to Ronaldo, and he may be stuck at United, for better or worse.
