Cristiano Ronaldo's record v Real Sociedad is fantastic

Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to make his return to Manchester United’s starting line-up this week.

While the Europa League is unfamiliar territory for him, opponents Real Sociedad will be a refreshingly welcome sight for the superstar.

Ronaldo has an excellent record against Real Sociedad from his spell at Real Madrid.

He will be looking to continue this on Thursday night at Old Trafford and get onto the scoresheet for the first time this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s record v Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad were not always La Liga regulars during Cristiano Ronaldo’s time in Spain.

He faced them nine times in total, and has a 100 per cent win rate, winning all nine matches.

In these nine games Ronaldo has scored an incredible 15 goals, and also provided four assists.

Ronaldo has scored in seven out of the nine matches he played against Sociedad, helping himself to multiple goal hauls.

This includes two hat-tricks, the latter coming in a 5-2 victory in 2018 in his final game against the club.

This strike rate highlights just what an incredible goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo was during his time in Spain, where he exceeded 60 goals per season twice.

He is yet to get off the mark this season, but it’s only a matter of time. Sociedad could be the perfect opponents for him to face right now.

How other United players fared v Sociedad

Ronaldo’s former and current teammate Raphael Varane played in 14 games against Sociedad, winning 11, drawing twice and losing once.

Per Transfermarkt, Casemiro also counts 14 games against Sociedad, with 10 wins, two draws and two defeats.

United beat Sociedad in 2021 on the run to the Europa League final, winning 4-0 ‘away from home’. However, this took place in Italy behind closed doors, rather than as a typical away fixture.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford (2) and Dan James were United’s scorers on the night.

United then drew the clash at Old Trafford 0-0, with Sociedad missing an early penalty.
