Cristiano Ronaldo knows United need a new striker this summer, says Romano

Ralf Rangnick has already said that Manchester United will sign a new, younger striker in the forthcoming summer transfer window.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has said on FIVE that United are already scouring the market to find a new frontman, with Edinson Cavani expected to leave in the summer when his contract runs out.

There is no suggestion right now that Cristiano Ronaldo is expecting to leave and Romano said that Rangnick’s comments on needing a new frontman are no issue for the Portuguese superstar.

“I was asking about Cristiano last week and the answer I received is that he is not planning to leave,” said Romano.

“He is just fighting for United. He is not thinking about the captaincy, he is thinking about results. He wants to be part of the project.

“At the moment, he is not jealous of any rumours around of signing a new striker. They will sign a new striker – 100%, Rangnick has already said it. They are already working around the market to see who could be the right player.

“They will sign a new striker and Cristiano is not jealous – he knows Man United need another striker, even with him staying at the club in the summer. At the moment, Cristiano is no problem and no issue for the club.”

Ronaldo wants to play every game and does not like coming off, but he must know even at 37 that United cannot just have him as their only striker.

United need a long term solution up front and it remains to be seen who they really go for in a summer where the likes of Manchester City will also be looking for a frontman again.

If Mauricio Pochettino takes over, perhaps United would sign him Harry Kane, which would create another interesting dynamic with Ronaldo.

Any out-and-out striker coming to United will know he is in a real battle for gametime with Ronaldo, but they will also get the chance to learn from him and expect to take over from him within a year or two.
