Cristiano Ronaldo hits out at Ralf Rangnick and vents Arsenal frustration

Further lines from Cristiano Ronaldo‘s interview with TalkTV have emerged in The Sun.

The superstar has hit out at a chaotic year at the club, in which he was unhappy with the decision to hire Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager.

Ronaldo expressed frustration at the way his season was wasted last year, commenting that he felt Rangnick should not have been placed in charge in the first place.

In a very disrespectful comment, Ronaldo blasted: “You’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him.”

United’s hiring of Rangnick certainly backfired, a little, the reason he was brought in was to become a consultant afterwards, and this fell through.

It did provide the bridge to hire Erik ten Hag permanently in the summer – but of course another interim boss could have ultimately served the same purpose.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals last season, still thriving under Rangnick, who certainly seemed to bite his tongue at times and refrain from criticising the star.

Ronaldo vents frustration

Ronaldo says he is frustrated at Manchester United’s failure to compete for the title, and says he cannot believe that Arsenal have currently overtaken the club.

The Gunners have an 11 point lead over United in the table. But they are in the third year of a project under Mikel Arteta – Manchester United are three months into Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Ronaldo said: “I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United. But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal . . . a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not unfortunately.”

Manchester United fans can on some level agree with what Ronaldo is saying here. We have all expressed huge frustration at the way the club have fallen behind rivals.

But sometimes it is not what you say, but how you say it, when, and to who. And by giving an interview to Piers Morgan, putting the club on blast, while still being paid handsomely to do so – it’s not at all helpful in the slightest.
