Bruno Fernandes believes his Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo possesses “that smell” when wanting to score goals.
Speaking in today’s pre-match press conference alongside interim boss Ralf Rangnick, Fernandes felt it was helpful for the United dressing room to have serial winners Ronaldo and Raphael Varane to call upon.
The pair have nine Champions League winners medals between them and they’ll be targeting number 10 this season.

Fernandes said: “He [Cristiano] has that smell for the goal.
“Having players that can decide games in any moment is helpful. We also have Rapha, who has won it four times.”
But United’s Portuguese ‘Magnifico’ also highlighted that the United players who haven’t been able to get their hands on the Champions League trophy are also eager to achieve success in the competition.
Fernandes continued: “But it is always the first time [to win the Champions League] for someone. They are hungry to do something well.
“They want to show it.”

Rangnick was likely referring to Varane and Ronaldo due to their Real Madrid connections when stating that some of his players are unlikely to be welcomed with the ‘”red carpet” at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
But Varane and Ronaldo in-particular are likely to thrive off the intimidating atmosphere that the Atletico Madrid fans will create.
Ronaldo has been the scourge of Diego Simeone’s side over the years and he will be hoping to inflict further pain on the reigning La Liga champions tomorrow night.
After scoring in every Champions League group stage game this season and dragging the Red Devils through to the last-16 practically single-handledly, the competition’s all-time top goalscorer will be hoping to steal the headlines once again.

Despite turning 37 earlier this month, Ronaldo has shown once again this season that he is ‘Mr Champions League’ and is the man to deliver on the biggest stage.
