Michael Carrick’s son, Jacey Carrick, has signed a scholarship with Manchester United this summer. Here is everything you need to know about him.

Over the next few years, Manchester United could have some players breaking through who have very familiar surnames, looking to follow in the footsteps of their legendary fathers.

Kai Rooney looks like a top attacking talent, with massive shoes to fill as comparisons are sure to be made with Wayne Rooney, even when they shouldn’t be.

This follows the Fletcher twins coming through with Darren Fletcher involved around the club academy.

Meanwhile, Jacey Carrick is also on this list of youngsters with a legendary name on their shirt, and he’s joined Rooney in signing a scholarship deal.

It will be special for fans to watch the next generation of Rooney and Carrick in a United shirt, even if just for the youth at the moment.

Carrick and Rooney were both pictured after signing their scholarship deals at the club last week, and now they have both been officially confirmed as scholars.

United have now confirmed the entire list, with Carrick one of 15 scholars for 2026/27.

This comes ahead of what will likely be a season where he strives to step into the U18 side under Darren Fletcher, beginning to show whether he is ready for the increase in levels or not.

Carrick debuted for the U18s at the end of the 2025/26 season, and it is almost certain that he will increasingly be used by Fletcher next season.

With the first-team manager being his father, Carrick is going to have a lot of attention on him whenever he plays for the U18s, which should serve him well in the long-run.

What kind of player is Jacey Carrick?

Everyone knows what Michael Carrick was like as a player, and Jacey is cut from a similar cloth.

He is a tidy defensive midfielder, capable of dictating play, picking out passes, but also puts in work defensively to complement whoever he is beside in the centre of the park.

At the age of 16, Carrick is tall and robust, but is also likely to have a growth spurt and will need to develop physically to ever play professional football, although that is a given over the coming years.

Carrick will get lots of U18 opportunities next season, with the likes of Jim Thwaites and Amir Ibragimov now too old for the level, and he should develop a lot over the course of the campaign.
