Shola Shoretire scores brace as United U21s come from behind to draw with Chelsea

Manchester United teenager Shola Shoretire led the Under-21s to a dramatic 3-3 comeback draw with their Chelsea counterparts.

United took the lead in the first half via Isak Hansen-Aarøen and went in 1-0 up at the break in the away game.

But Chelsea scored two quickfire goals shortly after half-time and had made it 3-1 by the 82th minute, when things looked bleak for United.

Then Shoretire took over, scoring two goals in stoppage time including a 97th minute equaliser to earn United a draw.

Shoretire shines against Chelsea

The starting team was: Vitek, Jurado, Bennett, Fredricson, Hardley, Collyer, Savage, Forson, Mainoo, Hansen, Shoretire.

On the substitutes bench were: Mastny, Murray, Huddlestone, Mather, McNeill.

That meant United went into the game without a traditional focal point striker but Shoretire stepped up to the mark when needed.

Erik ten Hag blocked Shoretire from leaving the club on loan during the summer transfer window, preferring to keep him at the club to develop.

It remains to be seen how much first team action he gets under the Dutchman but the 18-year-old certainly caught the eye here.

The result does mean that the U21s are still waiting for their first league win of the season, and this was a second consecutive 3-3 draw.

Last week, United also battled back to draw 3-3 with their Blackburn contemporaries, and it is to be hoped that first win is just around the corner.
