Talented English goalkeeper Nathan Bishop is all set to join Wycombe Wanderers on loan from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old stopper spent last season on loan at Mansfield Town in League 2, where he lost in the play-off final at Wembley.

The Manchester Evening News reported that he was in talks with the Stags over another season between the sticks for them.

Their manager Nigel Clough thinks Bishop is ‘outstanding‘ and that is reflected in his attempts to get him back on a temporary basis once again.

But Alex Crook of TalkSPORT claims that Mansfield are set to miss out to a team from the division above in the shape of Wycombe.

Wycombe suffered their own Wembley play-off heartbreak, going down 2-0 to Sunderland in the third tier showpiece last month.

Last season’s number one, David Stockdale, was at fault for the opening goal of that game and has since moved to Sheffield Wednesday.

That is why Wycombe need Bishop and their manager Gareth Ainsworth recently said that the situation would get resolved in the coming days.

Bishop is a hugely talented goalkeeper and he really has the ability to go up and be third choice at United, in truth.

The club seems overstaffed in the goalkeeping department, although the departure of Lee Grant has helped with that.

Dean Henderson will play for Nottingham Forest next season, and Tom Heaton really should step up to be number two, with his vast experience.

A young goalkeeper such as Bishop could then become number three, but it is also important that he gets out there and keeps playing.

That was crucial for Henderson, as he kept developing rather than stagnating by simply training at United but never showing what he could do.

It seems Bishop is set to test himself at a higher level and based on the evidence of last season, he should do very well indeed.
