Manchester United youngster Ruben Curley has torn ACL

A second Manchester United youngster has revealed he has torn his ACL, in the space of 48 hours.

Under-18s midfielder Ruben Curley is the latest to share the devastating news.

Curley, 16, made his Manchester United under-18s debut last season and went on to play four games.

This season he was expected to play a prominent role for the under-18s, having stepped up from the under-16s.

Now this has been put on hold, as one of two Manchester United youth players to sustain serious injuries.

Curley and Ennis torn ACLs

Curley follows Ethan Ennis, who confirmed a torn ACL 24 hours earlier. Ennis, 17, joined United from Liverpool a year ago.

Ennis scored 10 goals for the under-18s last season and looked primed for an even bigger campaign this time around after impressing in pre-season.

No Manchester United academy players suffered ACL tears last season, so to have two go down with such serious injuries is especially bad luck.

In 2020 D’Mani Mellor suffered a torn ACL at academy level. The injuries are expected to take around 12 months to recover from.

For both Ennis and Curley, it will be beneficial to share the experience with one another as they push to recover over the next year, mentally and physically.
