Jacob Lara starts for Manchester United

The name of the trialist was revealed by MUTV presenter Ben Ibson, who named Jacob Lara in the starting line-up.

Lara is under contract to Salford City, where he is part of their academy. He has not yet made the step up to the first team.

The teenager had a work experience loan at non-league Stalybridge Celtic earlier this season.

He lined up wearing the number five shirt, playing alongside Habeeb Ogunneye in central defence for Manchester United against Everton, with Elyh Harrison in goal.

Manchester United draw 1-1

Manchester United took a first half lead through Sam Mather, who has recently returned from injury.

Lara had begun well, defending on the front foot and looking comfortable in possession. He played a part in Mather’s opener.

His pass forward picked out James Nolan on the right wing, who ran with it before cutting back to Mather, who struck the ball first time high into the net.

Everton fought back to claim a draw with a header from a set piece scored by Martin Sherif early in the second half.

Trialist Lara completed 90 minutes and while he picked up a booking, he gave a good account of himself, and had a late effort in injury time which went over the bar.

Substitute Victor Musa also almost won it for United late on after being denied when one on one with the goalkeeper.
