Man Utd fans react to latest James Scanlon performance, ‘guarantee’ claim is made

Manchester United’s U18 side made it 10 successive league wins on Saturday morning, beating Stoke City 3-0 in the process.

After the heroics of the treble-winning 2023/24 group of U18s, nobody expected a repeat… let alone potentially a better team.

Well, that happens to be the situation Adam Lawrence currently has with his U18 side this season as Manchester United sit top of the U18 Premier League north table.

Saturday morning brought the latest game and to nobody’s surprise, United beat Stoke 3-0.

The game was far from the U18’s usual walk in the park, but eventually, a breakthrough was found through Chido Obi-Martin for his sixth in six games as a U18 player at United.

Further goals from James Scanlon and Dante Plunkett finished it off as United once again won convincingly without even conceding.

James Scanlon scores again for the U18s

The 18-year-old winger has been in phenomenal form this season for the academy and he scored another goal on Saturday against Stoke.

Scanlon scored the second of the game for United as he cut inside on his right foot and rifled the ball into the net from the edge of the box.

It was Scanlon’s 12th goal of the season, coupled with four assists which shows exactly how brilliant he has been this season with his development.

This is the kind of form that could see Scanlon noticed by Ruben Amorim. In terms of where Scanlon could fit in, either wing-back slot could logically suit his style.

Scanlon’s performances for Gibraltar show he is ready for senior football, so a January loan should be considered.

Manchester United fans all wowed by Scanlon

After the game, United fans were reacting to Scanlon’s performance and goal all over X.

One fan claimed that a goal was inevitable: “A James Scanlon U18 goal is a guarantee”.

“James Scanlon great finish. So dangerous when he cuts inside on his right foot”, wrote another fan.

The goal was a brilliant strike, which left fans in awe.

“JAMES SCANLON ARE U MADDDDD !!!!”, a fourth fan commented.

A fifth added: “Brilliant finish from Scanlon”.

While a sixth wrote: “Beauty from Scanlon that”.

Finally, one fan claimed that Scanlon has outgrown this level: “Scanlon shouldn’t be playing at U18s he’s too good. Should be U21 at least or a League 2 loan”.
