JJ Gabriel gets response to red card appeal for Man Utd U18 ahead of FA Youth Cup

Manchester United will have been concerned over the past few days after JJ Gabriel’s sending off had him on course to miss the FA Youth Cup fifth round.

Tuesday saw Manchester United’s U18 side shine in the Premier League Cup with a 4-3 win to reach the semi-finals.

Louie Bradbury and Jay McEvoy scored braces, with Gabriel getting a pair of assists and also seeing red.

It was then revealed that United intended to appeal the decision, and already there has been a response.

JJ Gabriel’s rise could be key to another FA Youth Cup win – but which other Man Utd talent are you excited to see in action?

JJ Gabriel red card overturned after an appeal

It was a moment that nobody wants to see in youth football, a red card for off-the-ball actions.

However, on seeing the footage, which Gabriel himself shared in disbelief, it became clear that the referee had got it wrong.

Even a yellow would have been harsh for Gabriel in this event, as it was merely a coming together that happens countless times in games up and down the country.

Now, taking to his Instagram story, Gabriel has confirmed that his red card has now been overturned, with Nathan Salt reinforcing this.

In addition, Gabriel’s dad took to X to explain he wasn’t surprised the red was expunged from the wonderkid’s record.

“Just like I said, not even a yellow. Cleared by FA to play, no red card.”

JJ Gabriel return at perfect time for Manchester United

If the red card had stood, it would have been really unfortunate for Gabriel, and he would have missed two massive games as a result.

However, his red being overturned is huge for Darren Fletcher’s side ahead of this weekend and the U18 Manchester derby, which will either give new hope or completely end the title chances for the Red Devils.

Additionally, Gabriel will now be available to play in next Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup fifth round tie against Oxford United away from home, which will be the biggest game of the season so far for Gabriel.

It is a shame such a bad decision happened in the first place as it almost led to United dropping a 4-0 lead to West Brom.
