A group of Manchester United’s youngsters have been competing at a youth tournament in Germany.

After a 10-1 win against a local amateur side at the weekend in which Ethan Ennis scored four goals, United arguably recorded an even better result on Wednesday.

A Manchester United under-19s side beat Bayern Munich 5-0 in their own country, an outstanding result highlighting the quality in the group, comprising of several of last season’s FA Youth Cup winners.

Bayern Munich reported the defeat on Twitter, writing: “After two wins in a row, #FCBU19 has to admit defeat against Manchester United with 0:5.”

Manchester United under-19 win over Bayern

A 5-0 win over any Bayern Munich side at any level is an achievement Manchester United’s young players should be proud of.

One player in particular is reported to have stood out, with striker Charlie McNeill bagging a hat-trick.

Ethan Ennis and Mateo Mejia were also on the scoresheet rounding off United’s five goal haul.

The three players each have interesting seasons ahead. McNeill has scored at a prolific rate since signing for United in 2020 from City, including five goals on the way to winning the Youth Cup.

United are light on strikers and there is potential for him to catapult himself into the first team reckoning this season.

Ennis is now entering his second season at the club and looks ready to take a leap forward too, having scored 10 times in his first year in the academy.

Mejia has had three years of injury hell since signing from Real Zaragoza, and failed to make a single start at academy level last season.

Now he is fit again, he has one more year to show his quality. He will be determined to make the most of it, and showing some positive signs in pre-season bodes well.
