Manchester United are likely now regretting turning down the chance to complete a £3 million move for 16-year-old Chris Rigg.

It was reported a few weeks ago that Manchester United were interested in 16-year-old Sunderland wonder-kid, Chris Rigg.

It was said that the Black Cats had quoted United £3 million in order to sign the rising star, a figure those at Old Trafford had deemed excessive.

Rigg is already in and around the first team picture at Sunderland despite his age.

This demonstrates his insane potential and has many recalling another player who broke out as a star in the Championship at 16.

Rigg narrowly misses out on setting new Championship record

Rigg has already impressed for Sunderland this season as he continues to feature under Tony Mowbray.

He scored his second senior goal in his last outing for his boyhood club, which came in the 5-0 thumping of Southampton.

This was his first ever Championship goal in his first game in the competition, which meant he became Sunderland’s youngest ever Championship goalscorer, which happens to be the competitions second youngest ever, been only by Jude Bellingham.

This followed Rigg’s earlier goal of the season which saw him set the League Cup’s youngest scorer record, beating a record set by Wayne Rooney over 20 years ago.

Captains England under 17s

Sunderland’s upcoming star captained England’s under 17s as they ran through Spain to secure a 4-1 win on Tuesday.

Rigg not only captained the side but managed to grab a goal too and was joined on the scoresheet by current Carrington gem Shea Lacey who bagged a brace.

The two incredible talents linking up on the international stage will have United fans dreaming of a potential link up between the two.

If he continues in this manner, we expect United will return with an open wallet for Rigg, along with multiple other top clubs who will be keen to snatch the talented midfielder up.
