Tyrell Malacia went straight back into action for Manchester United after the World Cup, starting both matches since the tournament.
He has looked sharp and it is not a surprise. Malacia is fresh after not playing a single minute for Netherlands in Qatar.
Malacia had the unwanted record of being the only one of Manchester United’s 15 players at the World Cup not to play a single minute.
Louis van Gaal did not select Malacia even to use as a substitute once, with Daley Blind preferred.
This was despite Van Gaal handing Malacia his debut last season and bringing him to Qatar as part of the squad.

Tyrell Malacia admits frustration
Malacia has admitted he was frustrated at continually being overlooked by Van Gaal during the tournament, admitting he did not find it easy to deal with.
Speaking to Dutch outlet Viaplay reported by FC Update, Malacia said: “Of course it is difficult if you are not allowed to make minutes.
“You keep hoping and doing your best in training. I always want to play, so it was definitely difficult.
“Of course I had moments when I was through it for a while, but then I picked myself up again. You never know, even if it’s only for five minutes. You always have to be ready.”
Malacia, 23, will have to continue to stay very patient in the knowledge he could have a crucial role in 2026 and helping Netherlands get there.
This is likely to be Blind’s last World Cup, and while there will be other challengers for the position, Malacia has a great platform at Manchester United to state his case.
Even though he is competing with Luke Shaw for a left-back spot at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has shown his desire to get both players on the pitch frequently.
Malacia has made 17 appearances for United already this season, 14 of which have been starts, since his summer move from Feyenoord.
