Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s skills on the training pitch have been described as ‘crazy’ by Declan Rice.
Rice has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford but at present, it seems his pricetag will be prohibitive to any switch.
The midfielder was speaking to England’s official social media channels for their Diary Room segment ahead of the clash with the United States.
He named Rashford – who came on and scored in Monday’s 6-2 win over Iran – as one of the most skilful players in the squad.
Rice on Rashford
“If I was going to say like skills, Rashy does some mad stuff with the ball, but he does it in like slowmotion, it just looks so good,” said Rice.
Rashford had not played for England since his Euro 2020 penalty heartbreak when he came off the bench against Iran.
But he took just three touches to score a goal which may go some way to getting the disappointment of that night at Wembley off his back.
England have great options off the bench with which to hurt tiring teams, and Rashford’s pace and directness could be so vital.
The Athletic report that Southgate is set to name an unchanged team for the game against America, which would mean Rashford is set for a spot on the bench again.
Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire played against Iran, both setting up a goal, and they will both deservedly keep their place in the team.
For Maguire, that would be a 50th cap, and Southgate’s faith in the defender has never wavered, even as his fitness and form for United has been lacking.
Rashford has timed his return to the England setup perfectly and he will be hoping for more chances to score on the world stage.
