Sevilla looking for double deal to sign Eric Bailly and Alex Telles
Sevilla have turned their attention to Manchester United defender Eric Bailly to help replace Jules Kounde, and plan to sign Alex Telles too.
Kounde – who was linked with United last season – has recently joined Barcelona, and Sevilla need a new central defender.
Spanish outlet AS report that Sevilla could earn more than £50 million from the Kounde deal and that United want in the region of £12.5 million for Bailly.
That could work in United’s favour, because Bailly has been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Roma – but on a loan deal.
Sevilla want Bailly
Sevilla of course had Anthony Martial on loan for the second half of last season, but that swoop did not work out well for anyone concerned.
Injuries hampered Martial’s time in Spain, and Bailly has been unable to stay fit enough to ever establish himself in United’s team.
The report says that it is certain that Bailly will leave United this summer as he seeks a new chapter in his career.
Having slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, it would be better for all concerned if that was the case, but United have not exactly been proficient at getting unwanted players out of the door in the last decade.
Sevilla seem like they have the money to pay what United want for Bailly and there are now two interested clubs in his signature.
The Ivorian is now fifth choice central defender and needs to make the move for the sake of his own career.
If United fail to convert this situation, it will be a reminder that the same issues linger on the recruitment side of things despite Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
United could utilise the Bailly fee to put towards a player the club want, and it is clear that Ten Hag still wants more before the window closes.
Sevilla can offer Champions League and a return to La Liga, which should be attractive to Bailly, and it may be up to Mourinho to get creative to convince the defender to re-join him in Italy.
Sevilla closing in on Telles
Fabrizio Romano reports Sevilla are closing in on a double deal to sign Alex Telles, who is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Tyrell Malacia’s arrival has pushed the former Porto man down the pecking order, and this deal feels advanced.
Telles played out of position at centre-back during United’s pre-season tour. He spent two season at Old Trafford but has failed to convince as the long-term solution at left-back.
The chance to play Champions League football should appeal to Telles, who is hoping to secure a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
