It has been a big week for Manchester United with three wins in the last seven days.
Off the pitch, there are a few minor snippets of news surrounding transfers and players linked to Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes does it again
While Jesse Lingard struggled again in midweek against Chelsea, our favourite Portuguese attacker Bruno Fernandes was doing what he does best.
Last night Fernandes scored a penalty and set up another goal as Sporting beat Pacos de Ferreira 2-1.
Whoscored.com rated Fernandes as man-of-the-match with an 8.8 rating, owing to his three shots on target and three chances created.
He now has seven goals and six assists this season, and his pass completion rate last night was 82 per cent, just one per cent lower than Lingard’s against Chelsea, which came without the attacking prowess.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola report Sporting’s attempts to get Fernandes to sign a new contract have hit a dead end, with the report suggesting United might be tempted to renew their alleged interest.
Keisuke Honda finds a home?
Remember that bizarre plea from Japan international Keisuke Honda for Manchester United to sign him at the end of September?
Reported by SkySports at the time, United chose not to take him up on it, and a similar plea to his former club AC Milan also fell on deaf ears.
Now he at least has found a club, with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem bringing him on board to train with them, with a view to a deal, Football Oranje report.
Rochdale’s talent pens new deal
United’s penalty shootout win over Rochdale set up our victory against Chelsea, but it was not easy.
Rochdale teenager Luke Matheson stole a share of Mason Greenwood’s limelight by scoring an impressive equaliser in the draw at Old Trafford at the end of September.
The Mirror reported at the weekend that United want to sign the 16-year-old in January to add to the academy.
The Mail report last night that Matheson has signed a new contract at Rochdale, which won’t stop us if we want him, but it might mean United have to pay a bit extra.
