Manchester United linked with move for Monaco right-back Vanderson

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Monaco right-back Vanderson, according to reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 giants from Brazilian side Gremio in January, but he’s already reportedly caught the attention of the Red Devils and Barcelona.

According to SPORT, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Barcelona are interested in signing Monaco’s number two.

The same report states that Manchester United enquired about an asking price for the Brazilian only last month, but Monaco manager Philippe Clement and the club’s owners rebuffed the approach.

The Brazilian has played 33 times for Rouges et blancs from which he has scored two goals and laid on three assists.

According to SPORT, Vanderson is seen as Brazil’s long-term right-back following the conclusion of this winter’s World Cup which will bring an end to the tenure of Tite.

Vanderson’s contract at the Stade Louis II doesn’t expires until 2027 and his contract doesn’t contain a release clause.

He was signed at Monaco by head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, who was linked with a switch to Old Trafford earlier this year.

Signing a right-back to challenge and provide quality cover to Diogo Dalot, who has started the season impressively, is likely to be high on Erik ten Hag‘s wishlist.

The likes of Sergio Dest and Thomas Meunier were linked with moves to Old Trafford this summer, but moves for neither ever came to fruition.

With Ethan Laird sent out on a season-long loan to Championship Queens Park Rangers, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only other out and out available right-back Ten Hag has at his disposal.

Brandon Williams is yet to return to training and Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia have both been used at right-back in our two Europa League matches.

Wan-Bissaka doesn’t look to have a long-term future at Old Trafford with the former Ajax manager seemingly deeming the former Crystal Palace man who cost Manchester United £50m simply not being good enough.

Manchester United are likely to be linked with several right-backs ahead of the January transfer window and it’s far too early to tell whether the links with Vanderson carry any substance, but he’s certainly a name to keep an eye on.
