Manchester United linked with Benjamin Pavard

Manchester United are monitoring Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, report RMC Sport.

The French outlet, backed by a report from L’Equipe claim the 2018 World Cup winner is considering his options at Bayern.

This comes after Bayern signed Noussair Mazraoui on a free transfer from Ajax this summer.

Pavard wants to be a regular starter, with his France place coming under pressure from recent call-up Jonathan Clauss, who is on the verge of a move to Marseille.

Manchester United linked with Benjamin Pavard

Recent history has taught Manchester United fans not to get carried away when a Bayern Munich player is linked to the club. It most usually ends with them signing a new deal. The one player we did get was Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was well past his best.

Pavard is still only 26 and has plenty to offer. He made 24 league starts for Bayern last season, although only managed one assist.

He signed for Bayern in 2019 from Stuttgart, where he had spent three seasons following a switch from Lille as a teenager.

Pavard is under contract at Bayern Munich until 2024. RMC Sport report United are monitoring his situation, along with Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

He can also play at centre-back, although this feels less likely at Bayern after the recent arrival of Matthijs de Ligt, who will likely partner Dayot Upamecano or Lucas Hernandez in the team.

United would only require Pavard at right-back, where he would likely replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the position.

However, Diogo Dalot has been one of United’s star performers in pre-season and will not give up the right-back spot without a fight.

It doesn’t sound like a move from United for Pavard is imminent, but with the club still exploring their options at the position, and the defender assessing his own situation, something could come together later in the window, if there is a willingness on both sides.
