Newcastle’s Ekitike struggles could see them push harder for Lingard

Newcastle look set to be the Premier League’s busiest club on deadline day and they want a new player in the forward areas.

Hugo Ekitike was their main target but the Athletic are among the outlets stating that their move for the French teenager is close to breaking down.

Their Newcastle correspondent Chris Waugh said on YouTube that if the Magpies couldn’t sign the Reims forward, they would go back for Lingard.

That means that Lingard’s move to Newcastle could be back on and the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope claims that United have lowered their survival bonus demands to £9 million.

That indicates that there is wiggle room and that the Red Devils are willing to try and engineer a late exit for the midfielder.

But it also seems that West Ham are making a late bid to bring Lingard back to the London Stadium too.

Journalist David Ornstein claims that the Hammers have offered better terms than they had Lingard on last season as they seek to bolster their bid for European football.

United had previously dismissed bids from top four rivals for Lingard and it remains to be seen whether that stance alters so close to the deadline.

Van de Beek undergoes Everton medical

Journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted that van de Beek has undergone his medical at Everton ahead of his loan move to Goodison Park.

Frank Lampard has now been confirmed as the Toffees’ new manager and that means that the next new face expected to be confirmed through the door is the Dutchman.

Everton have a central midfield injury crisis and that means that van de Beek should have a great chance of going straight into the team.

Henderson and Jones seemingly set to stay

The Athletic reported that Dean Henderson looks all set to stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

Ralf Rangnick has always said he wanted to keep the England international as a backup goalkeeper and no offers seem imminent.

Newcastle are named as the most likely candidates but they can only loan one player from the same Premier League club and Lingard is their priority.

Phil Jones was mooted in relation to a shock Ligue 1 move to relegation battling Bordeaux but has turned the French outfit down, as per the Athletic.

He has apparently trained at Carrington today ahead of United’s return to action in the FA Cup fourth round against Middlesbrough on Friday night.
