Deals Manchester United could announce on July 1

Manchester United have been laying the groundwork for incoming and outgoing deals in the transfer market over the past month, and we are moving closer to resolutions.

July 1 is a big date, as it means the beginning of a new FIFA calendar year, with players’ contract expiring.

While their departures were announced earlier in June, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are officially no longer Manchester United players from midnight on June 30, and they can sign with new teams. They were among 11 players released.

There are more deals in the pipeline which Manchester United hope to conclude before the pre-season tour. July 1 would be a great day for United to announce some of these, if not all of them, wrapping up important business before the weekend.

Here is a look at the state of play with four important deals, which could reach their conclusion on July 1. United skipped this date last year and announced Tom Heaton’s signing, plus new deals for Lee Grant and Juan Mata on July 2. So even if these don’t quite happen in the next 24 hours, the weekend could see movement.

There is also one announcement guaranteed for July 1, and this is the official unveiling of the 2022/23 Manchester home kit, scheduled for this date. If United decide to double up and announce a new signing to go along with the kit, this could make a lot of sense commercially…

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has kept everybody guessing over his next move. He officially becomes a free agent on July 1, and while he may not make his announcement straight away, there is a good chance he does.

Manchester United have offered Eriksen a contract, The Athletic report, while there is also a temptation to play it safe and stay at Brentford. He will also have offers from other teams, but United should rightly be regarded as clear favourites.

Frenkie de Jong

The big deal Manchester United have been waiting on all summer, announcing this on the same day as the new kit would be a dream scenario for the club.

Barcelona have been focused on getting to June 30 for accounting purposes, and selling De Jong is expected to happen very shortly. Sky Germany have suggested De Jong could be announced by United this weekend.

The Guardian report Erik ten Hag is ‘confident’ a deal will go ahead for the Netherlands midfielder.

Tyrell Malacia

This is the deal Manchester United are furthest along with, and is less complex than the Frenkie de Jong transfer.

If the De Jong deal isn’t ready to be announced along with the new kit, then there is a strong chance the move for Tyrell Malacia gets signed off. The Athletic report a £15 million fee has been agreed with Feyenoord.

Voetbal Primeur report the only reason the deal has not yet been announced, is because Feyenoord are waiting until July 1, when a new financial year begins, from a sporting perspective.

Dean Henderson: Out

Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest is all approved, pending official confirmation. This is expected to go through on July 1.

The only reason the Henderson move has not gone through yet is because Henderson got married in Italy last Saturday and has been on honeymoon.

The Athletic report Henderson is set to fly in for a medical at Nottingham Forest, ‘with an announcement pencilled in for Friday.’

The loan move will boost Henderson’s chances of earning a World Cup place, and will get his career back on track after only playing three games during the 2021/22 season.

Any other business: United confirmed a contract offer had gone out to Martin Svidersky, an under-23 midfielder. However, the Slovakian has already confirmed he has decided to leave the club, via Instagram, and told Sportnet he is set to sign with a La Liga club in Spain. He could announce his choice on July 1.

D’Mani Mellor and Connor Stanley were the other two academy players released whose futures are unclear, and if they have new clubs, they could announce them.

Likewise, Paul Pogba’s move to Juventus could become official on July 1, and Jesse Lingard could make an announcement on his next move.
