Brobbey and Clauss set for moves elsewhere after United links as Ajax plan to extend Timber's contract

Manchester United transfer round-up

The transfer window is taking shape with Manchester United already finalising three signings. But other deals are being progressed elsewhere, and players can also be ruled out.

One of these is striker Brian Brobbey. BILD had reported Manchester United had been looking to make a late swoop for the RB Leipzig striker, with Erik ten Hag keen on reuniting with the forward.

It appears Ajax have won the race. Fabrizio Romano reports Ajax and Leipzig are entering final discussions over a transfer.

United need a striker regardless of whether Cristiano Ronaldo stays or goes. But it’s unlikely to be Brobbey.

Another player linked to United in recent days was Lens right-back Jonathan Clauss, with the Evening Standard reporting interest from the Red Devils.

Clauss is set to sign for French side Marseille. A deal has been agreed of £7 million plus bonuses and he is now set to undergo a medical.

A player linked with Manchester United earlier in the transfer window was Jurrien Timber, with The Guardian reporting talks were held with Ajax back in May. He was then spooked after Louis van Gaal’s threat he could lose his World Cup spot.

United signed Lisandro Martinez from Ajax instead, and the Dutch side are now set to reward Timber with a new contract.

SportNieuws reports he is set to be offered a contract extension as reward for his loyalty, and also to leave Ajax in a stronger negotiating position when big clubs come calling in the future.
