Manchester United are aiming to strike a deal for Mason Mount as a top priority in the summer transfer window.

The Chelsea midfielder will bring a combination of youth, quality and hard work to Manchester United’s midfield and has been hand-picked by manager Erik ten Hag.

There is still work to do; no fee has yet been agreed with Chelsea, however, The Telegraph report Mason Mount has already agreed on personal terms with the club.

While the England international grew up as a Chelsea fan, he looked further afield for his idol.

Mount told Goal: “Iniesta at Barcelona in his prime [was a player I watched], when they were playing their tiki-taka. I was always watching them on YouTube.

“I saw the [Barcelona] games as well. I think Barca and Iniesta were a big part of me growing up, looking at those as role models.”

In a similar manner to Iniesta who scored the World Cup winner in 2010, Mount has a big contribution to a major final on his CV.

Mount provided the game-winning assist for Kai Havertz to score the winner against Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final.

Mount is capable of providing real quality in United’s midfield. He can chip in with goals too, with five international goals for England so far.

Comments from his former boss Thomas Tuchel underline that he could be a dream player for Erik ten Hag to work with.

Tuchel was quoted by One Football: “I don’t want to put a limit on his development.

“Besides being a great footballer, he is a super-nice guy with a big personality, he has motivation, he is eager to learn, hungry to win, open-minded and he can perform for any manager. What more could you wish for?'”

Mount’s apparent dissatisfaction at Chelsea’s direction has all fallen into place nicely for Manchester United’s timely return to the Champions League, and The Athletic report the Red Devils are his top choice club to sign for his summer.

Once the FA Cup final is out the way, we expect Manchester United to accelerate attempts to get this deal over the line.
